ARK 2 Wyvern β€” Egg Stealing & Raising Guide

The wyvern is the aerial apex predator of ARK 2 and honestly getting your first one is basically the most exciting moment in the entire game no saddle required devastating elemental breath attacks and unmatched speed it's not about knocking one out like normal tames you have to steal its egg and raise the hatchling yourself which sounds simple but is genuinely one of the most stressful things you'll ever do in ARK. But once you have your own wyvern everything changes you go from being scared of the sky to owning it and that feeling is honestly worth every failed egg run and dead pteranodon along the way

Egg Stealing Guide

So you want to steal a wyvern egg without dying a horrible fiery death honestly the first step is finding the Wyvern Trench in the Volcano biome where eggs spawn in nests scattered throughout the canyon each nest has one egg and the element type depends on which zone you're in fire lightning or poison nests in their respective areas you know. And before you even think about grabbing an egg scout the area with a fast flyer like a pteranodon or a griffin because wyverns aggro from extreme range near nests and you need to check the egg level before committing anything below level 150 is basically not worth the risk tbh. But here is the actual grabbing part land near the egg snatch it and immediately sprint away the wyverns will chase you for about 2 minutes and your flyer cannot tank multiple wyverns so don't fight just run you get the idea. Also the secret to losing aggro is flying through dense forests or rock formations to break line of sight wyverns lose interest after losing visual for about 30 seconds I've literally flown through the redwood trees with 3 wyverns on my tail and somehow survived I mean it was pure luck honestly. Then for incubation wyvern eggs need extreme heat 80 to 90 degrees Celsius so use 15 plus standing torches or air conditioners in a sealed room or you can build a dedicated incubation hut with fireplaces and torches and stuff like that or whatever heating method works for your base setup. Anyway once the egg is incubating the real challenge begins and trust me stealing the egg was the easy part

Raising a Wyvern

Alright so the egg is incubating and you're feeling pretty proud of yourself but here's where things get real because baby wyverns are the most demanding babies in the entire game the incubation takes about 4 hours and 59 minutes at optimal temperature. And then the baby phase hits which is roughly 9 hours and 15 minutes and during this entire time the baby eats ONLY wyvern milk no meat no berries no substitutes just milk or death which is honestly terrifying when you're a first time wyvern parent. But getting wyvern milk is a whole adventure on its own you have to knock out female wyverns with tranq arrows or kill Alpha Wyverns which drop 50 milk per kill and the milk spoils in 30 minutes so you need to store it in a Preserving Bin with Sparkpowder immediately or you're basically wasting your time I mean milk runs are literally a race against the clock. Also once the baby reaches juvenile phase at around 28 hours it finally starts eating raw meat and you can stop the milk runs which is such a relief I can't even tell you kinda feels like you've been holding your breath for a whole day. Then the full maturation from hatch to adult takes about 3 days 20 hours and 30 minutes total and honestly the waiting is the hardest part because you've invested so much time and milk into this thing you know. And imprinting is absolutely crucial if you want the best wyvern possible 100 percent imprint gives plus 20 percent damage and plus 20 percent damage resistance which is a massive difference in combat the imprint requests include wyvern milk cuddles and walks and missing even one imprint can cost you that perfect 100 percent. So basically raising a wyvern is a full time job for 4 days but when it's done you have the most powerful flying mount in the game and it's honestly worth every sleepless night and every emergency milk run at 3am

Combat Uses

Once your wyvern is fully grown you basically become the most dangerous thing in the sky and here's how each variant plays out in combat the fire wyvern is your go to for general PvE and alpha hunting the fire breath does damage over time burning targets for 10 seconds at 25 percent of base damage per tick which adds up really fast. And the lightning wyvern is the undisputed PvP meta because its beam attack is hitscan which means no leading required at any range you just point and click and things die it's honestly kind of broken ngl. But the poison wyvern has a special niche in siege situations its poison ball creates an AoE cloud that damages through armor and structures so you can clear enemy turret towers without ever exposing yourself to gunfire pretty much deletes base defenses and stuff like that. Also the ice wyvern is perfect for taming escorts and support roles its breath slows targets by 80 percent for 8 seconds which makes it amazing for escorting slow tames through dangerous territory or kiting big creatures into traps you get the idea. And here's something that catches new wyvern riders off guard there's no saddle which means no armor wyverns take full damage from all sources and turrets will shred them in PvP so you need to use hit and run tactics and never hover in one spot or you'll get deleted tbh. So basically pick your wyvern type based on what you plan to do most and get really good at strafing runs because that's the whole combat style right there or whatever breath type you end up with honestly

My First Wyvern Experience

I'm not gonna lie my first wyvern egg run was an absolute disaster I grabbed a level 85 fire egg without checking the level first because I was too excited and panicked and then I got chased by 4 adult wyverns through the entire canyon my poor pteranodon died about 30 seconds in and I somehow managed to glide to safety with the egg but I lost all my gear my flyer and my dignity ugh. But my second attempt I came prepared with a high level griffin scouted the trench for 20 minutes found a level 175 lightning egg and executed the grab perfectly flying through the rock spires to lose aggro and honestly the adrenaline rush when you successfully escape with a high level egg is unlike anything else in gaming. And then the raising process was another lesson in humility I didn't bring enough milk for the first night and had to do an emergency milk run at 3am fighting off alpha wyverns while half asleep and my tribemate was yelling at me over Discord the whole time but we managed to raise that lightning wyvern to 100 percent imprint and it became our tribe's most prized tame. So basically my advice is over prepare for everything bring twice as much milk as you think you need scout the trench thoroughly before grabbing and don't get attached to the first egg you see patience is everything with wyverns

Advanced Tips

Some stuff I wish someone had told me before I got into wyvern breeding and combat seriously milk farming is way easier on a griffin than a pteranodon because the griffin can dive and has way more stamina for chasing female wyverns or escaping alpha packs. And when you're raising multiple wyverns at once which is honestly the way to go if you can manage it build a dedicated milk storage room with multiple preserving bins near the trench so you can do milk runs in batches and store everything close to where you fight pretty much a milk factory setup and all that. Also don't sleep on the poison wyvern for PvE content its breath goes through armor which means it wrecks things like rock elementals and other high defense creatures that normally take forever to kill kinda underrated imo. But the biggest tip I can give is about imprinting if you're doing multiplayer get your tribemates to help with the imprint requests because the timer keeps going even when you're offline and missing an imprint at 90 plus percent is one of the most heartbreaking things in the game literally. And for combat movement is everything with wyverns you have no armor remember so you need to be constantly moving do a breath attack pass then circle around for another run never stop moving never try to face tank anything bigger than a raptor and always keep an eye on your stamina because running out of stam mid air over a wyvern trench is basically a death sentence and I've learned that one the hard way too ugh
