ARK 2 Advanced Taming Techniques — Beyond the Tranq Dart

knockout taming is honestly just the beginning and ARK 2 introduces new taming methods like passive feeding and net projectile traps and chain bola immobilization and environmental trap designs for every biome and I mean the basic tranq and feed approach is kind of boring after a while and there's so much more you can do tbh

Advanced Taming Techniques — Beyond the Tranq Dart

so the basic knockout taming method is fine for starters but honestly there are way cooler ways to tame creatures in ARK 2 and I've been experimenting with passive feeding and net projectile traps and chain bola immobilization and environmental trap designs and it's literally changed how I approach taming completely imo

Passive Taming (No Tranq Needed)

so for passive taming you don't need any tranqs at all and the Sarco takes spoiled meat and you need to feed it from behind while approaching slowly because the sarco will turn to face you and you wait for the passive animation before feeding and the Dunkleosteus takes exceptional kibble underwater and it's neutral but surrounded by aggressive ocean life so clear the area first or use a fast escape mount and I've nearly drowned doing this so be careful and the Tusoteuthis takes black pearls for a deep sea passive tame and you feed while riding a fast mount approaching from above to avoid the grab attack and the Otter takes raw fish meat and it's a passive tame on land or water so just follow the otter and feed when it stops moving and the Mesopithecus takes mejoberries and you can throw berries on the ground or offer from your hand and it makes a great shoulder pet for early game and honestly passive taming is super satisfying once you get the hang of it etc

Trap Taming Designs

then for trap taming there's the Bola plus Ramp Trap which is best for medium creatures like raptors and carnos and parasaurs and you place 3 doorframes in a U shape with ramps leading in and bola the creature so it runs into the trap and I use this one all the time for early tames and the Metal Gate Trap uses 4 metal gateways in a square with one left open and you lure the creature in then close it with another gateway and this works for T Rex and Spino and Therizino and the Behemoth Cage is a large bear trap with 8 behemoth gates and it's best for Giganotosaurus and Titanosaur and you lure giant dinos into the open cage then close the entrance and the Underwater Pen uses stone foundations with doorframes around an oil node and you lure dunkleo or other aquatic tames into the pen then close with a gate and honestly trap taming is kind of my favorite method because it feels so clever when it works or whatever
